30 जून आणि 1 जुलै 2025 रोजी, नौजवान भारत सभा आणि आमची मुंबई आमची बेस्ट द्वारे मुंबईतील बेस्ट बसच्या भाडेवाढीविरोधात पत्रके वाटण्याची मोहीम राबवली. ही मोहीम कुर्ला येथील बेस्ट डेपो आणि चेंबूरमधील वाशी नाका बस स्टॉपवर आयोजित करण्यात आली होती.
ही मोहीम सुरु करण्याचे तात्काळ कारण म्हणजे बेस्ट प्रशासनाने घेतलेला भाडेवाढीचा निर्णय. याअंतर्गत किमान भाडे दुप्पट करून 10 रुपये करण्यात आले आहे, तर कमाल भाड्याची पूर्वीची मर्यादा जी 20 रुपये होती ती पूर्णतः काढून टाकण्यात आली आहे. यामुळे, ज्या मार्गासाठी पूर्वी प्रवाशांना 25 कि.मी. अंतरासाठी 20 रुपये भाडे भरावे लागत होते, त्याच मार्गासाठी आता 40 रुपये खर्च येतो. लांब पल्ल्याच्या प्रवासासाठी तर भाडे याहून अधिक आहे.
या भाडेवाढीचा थेट परिणाम म्हणजे प्रवाशांची संख्या 10 टक्क्यांहून अधिक घटलेली आहे. त्याचबरोबर, जवळपास सर्व लांब पल्ल्याच्या मार्गांवरील बससेवा बंद करण्यात आली आहे, कारण प्रशासनाचा दावा आहे की हे मार्ग “तोट्यात” आहेत. परिणामी, प्रवाशांना एका बससाठी सरासरी 45 मिनिटांपर्यंत प्रतीक्षा करावी लागत आहे. हे सर्व बदल बेस्टच्या खाजगीकरणासाठी प्रशासनाने गेल्या काही वर्षांपासून केलेल्या प्रयत्नांचेच परिणाम आहेत.
4 जुलै रोजी बेस्टच्या खाजगीकरणाविरोधात नागरिक मंच ‘आमची मुंबई, आमची बेस्ट’ यांच्यावतीने आयोजित करण्यात आलेल्या निदर्शनास पाठिंबा देत, नौजवान भारत सभा शहरभर जनजागृती मोहिमा राबवत आहे. या मोहिमांमधून नागरिकांना या निदर्शनात सहभागी होण्यासाठी, तसेच खाजगीकरणाविरोधातील व्यापक आंदोलनाचा भाग होण्यासाठी आवाहन करण्यात येत आहे.
सुरक्षित, सुलभ, परवडणारी आणि सन्मानजनक सार्वजनिक वाहतूक हा नागरिकांचा हक्क आहे. या हक्कासाठी आवाज उठवण्यासाठी 4 जुलै रोजी दुपारी 3:00 वाजता वडाळा बस डेपोबाहेर आयोजित निदर्शनात आपली उपस्थिती नोंदवा.

On 30th June and 1st July, Naujawan Bharat Sabha and Aamchi Mumbai Aamchi BEST organized a leafleting campaign against the recent fare hikes in BEST buses in Mumbai. The campaigns were organized at the BEST depot in Kurla and at bus stops in Vashi Naka, Chembur. The immediate context behind the campaign is the recent decision by BEST administration to hike bus fares. The minimum bus fare in Mumbai has now been doubled to Rs 10 and the cap on maximum fare (previously Rs 20) has now been removed. Thus, where a 25 km route cost Rs 20 earlier, now it will cost Rs 40. Longer routes will cost more.
The fare hike has resulted in a drop in ridership of over 10%. It is another matter that almost all long routes have been discontinued, with the argument that they are “loss-making”. People are now being forced to wait an average of 45 mins per bus. All of this is a consequence of measures taken over the past several years to privatize BEST.
Responding to a call given by the citizens’ forum Aamchi Mumbai Aamchi BEST for a protest against the privatization of BEST on the 4th of July, NBS is organizing campaigns throughout the city inviting people to join the demonstration and to become a part of the broader movement against privatization.
