नौभास सदस्य मानखुर्द गोवंडी मधील वेगवेगळ्या कष्टकरी वस्त्यांमध्ये गेली काही वर्षे फिरते वाचनालय चालवत आहेत. नियमित वाचक विज्ञान, इतिहास यासोबतच शहीद भगतसिंह आणि त्यांच्या साथीदारांचं साहित्य देखील घेतात. स्मृतीदि नानिमित्त सर्वांचं सामूहिक वाचन घेतलं गेलं. मुलांना त्यांनी वाचलेल्या गोष्टीचा एक सारांश मांडायला सांगितलं होतं. सत्रादरम्यान त्यांनी आपापल्या वाचलेल्या साहित्याचा सारांश मांडला आणि त्यांनतर बटुकेश्वर दत्त यांच्या क्रांतिकारी वारश्यावर चर्चा घेण्यात आली. हे सत्र त्या वस्तीत घेण्यात आलं जी वस्ती 2024 च्या गणतंत्र दिवसाच्या दोन दिवस आधीच तोडण्यात आली होती. ह्या वस्तीतील रहिवाशी सतत पाणी, वीज नसणे, यांसारख्या समस्यांच्या दडपणाखाली तसेच वस्ती हटवली जाण्याच्या भितीखाली जगत आहेत. मुंबईतल्या आणि देशभरातल्या अनेक कष्टकरी वस्त्यांमध्ये हीच स्थिती आहे. एकीकडे देशाचे नेते भारताला जगातील तिसऱ्या क्रमांकाची सर्वात मोठी अर्थव्यवस्था असल्याचा गाजावाजा करतात तर दुसरीकडे देशात अनेकांना अमानवीय परिस्थितीत जगणे भाग आहे. अशा वातावरणामुळे मुलांवर खूप विपरीत परिणाम होतो. त्यांचे आरोग्य खालावते, त्यांच्या शिक्षणावर अत्याधिक परिणाम होतो. उदाहरणार्थ, ह्या वस्तीत वीज फक्त रात्री 11 ते सकाळी 6 ह्या वेळेतच उपलब्ध असते ज्यामुळे मुलांना अभ्यास करण्यात अनेक अडथळे निर्माण होतात. तथाकथित ‘ विश्वगुरू’ भारताची हीच खरी वास्तविकता आहे. इतक्या कठीण परिस्थितीतही वस्तीतील मुले आजूबाजूच्या जगाला समजून घेण्यासाठी तत्पर असतात. फिरते वाचनालयासारखे उपक्रम छोटे असेल तरी त्यांच्यावर थोपवण्यात आलेल्या ह्या परिस्थितीचे समीक्षात्मक विश्लेषण करण्यासाठी मदत करतात. सत्रादरम्यान मुलांनी त्यांच्या शाळांची स्थिती, लोकल ट्रेन व्यवस्था, त्यांच्या आजुबाजूच्या वस्त्या यांबद्दल म्हणणे मांडले. असेल कार्यक्रम भविष्यातही घेतले पाहिजे असंही मांडलं. नौभास हे मानते की आपल्या क्रांतिकारकांनी ज्या जगाचं स्वप्न बघितलं होतं ते आजही अपूर्ण आहे. असं जग ज्यात मूठभर श्रीमंत कष्टकऱ्यांनी बनवलेल्या संपत्तीचे मालक नसतील आणि कष्टकरी जनता हलाखीच्या स्थितीत जीवन जगण्यास मजबूर नसेल. शहीद भगतसिंह आणि त्यांच्या साथीदारांच्या स्वप्नातील समाज घडवण्याची जबाबदारी आज तरुण आणि विद्यार्थ्यांची आहे.

On the death anniversary of revolutionary freedom fighter Battukeshwar Dutt, the Mumbai unit of Naujawan Bharat Sabha (NBS) organized a special session with the readers of the Shaheed Sukhdev Mobile Library in Sathe Nagar, Mankhurd.
NBS members have been running mobile library across various working-class areas of Mankhurd and Govandi. Regular readers borrow books on science, history, and the revolutionary literature of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his comrades.
To mark the occasion, a collective reading session was held with children in the area. They were asked to prepare short summaries of stories they had recently read from the books they had borrowed. During the session, the children presented their summaries, and a discussion was held on the revolutionary legacy of Battukeshwar Dutt. The session took place in the slum that was demolished just two days before Republic Day in 2024. Residents of the area continue to face severe challenges, including lack of access to proper water and electricity connections, and the constant fear of eviction. This situation is not unique—many parts of Mumbai and the rest of the country reflect a similar reality. While political leaders boast about India being the third-largest economy in the world, many continue to live in inhumane conditions.
Children are especially vulnerable in such environments. Their health suffers, and their education is severely impacted. In this area, for example, electricity is only available between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., making it difficult for children to study. This is the reality in the so-called “Vishwaguru India.”
Despite these hardships, the children in the area remain determined to understand and engage with the world around them. Initiatives like the mobile library are small but meaningful steps toward helping them critically examine the conditions they are forced to live in. During the session, children spoke thoughtfully about the state of their schools, the local train system, and their neighbourhoods. They also expressed a desire for more such programs in the future.
Naujawan Bharat Sabha believes that the world envisioned by our revolutionaries—a world where a small elite does not hoard all the wealth created by the labour of the working masses, while the working masses are forced to live in precarious conditions—still remains to be built. It is the responsibility of students and youth today to take forward the dreams of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his comrades.
